Annual VIS Moot Reception with the President of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators

On the occasion of the 24th Annual Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot, Konrad & Partners and the Scottish Arbitration Centre hosted another Moot Reception.

We welcomed more than 100 renowned practitioners from all over the world at our Vienna premises for an informative and enjoyable evening over champagne and canapés. We felt particularly honoured to welcome our guest of honour Dr Nayla Comair-Obeid, President of the Chartered Institute or Arbitrators. We would like to thank everyone who attended our Cocktail and this made this a memorable event.

UNCITRAL-LAC Conference on Dispute Settlement

On 4 April 2017, Dr. Heidrun Halbartschlager sat on a panel at the UNCITRAL-LAC Conference which was jointly organized by UNCITRAL and the Ljubljana Arbitration Center. The conference addressed the topic of “Modern Times for International Arbitration” and took place at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia. 

In her presentation, Heidrun focused on selected aspect of Austrian Arbitration law.

Panel Discussion at Young ICCA Event in Pristina

On 23 February 2017, Dr. Heidrun Halbartschlager sat on the panel of Young ICCA´s conference in Pristina to discuss the topic of Party Representation Costs and Costs of the Arbitration.

In her presentation, Heidrun focused on security for costs orders in international arbitration.

Lecture on arbitration law at Danube University Krems

On 14 – 15 January 2017, Dr. Heidrun Halbartschlager, Dr. Michael Hofstätter and Martin Hackl held all-day lectures on (international) arbitration law at the Danube University of Krems.

On the first day the students were provided with an overview of arbitration law and an insight into the legal foundations of Austrian arbitration. The second day was focused on practical issues and particularities of international arbitration. In addition, various other forms of international dispute resolution were discussed.

Arbitrators’ Quest – Konrad & Partners´ CEE and SEE Mock Trial

We are pleased to announce that after two successful competitions,  the “Arbitrators’ Quest  – Konrad & Partners´ CEE and SEE mock trial based on real life experience” is being convened for the third consecutive year on 12 May 2017 in Vienna.

Since Konrad & Partners is committed to encouraging and fostering future talent, the Quest provides dedicated senior students with the opportunity to combine their academic skills with practical experience in a mock international arbitration. Participants will be guided under the supervision of experienced lawyers and renowned scholars to prepare their written and oral arguments, and to appear before an arbitral tribunal on 12 May 2017 to argue their case.

Based on the written submission (to be submitted in advance of the hearing) and oral performance, an “Arbitration Specialist” will be elected from amongst the participants, who will be offered a paid internship in our Arbitration Practice Group in Vienna.

Dr. Christian W. Konrad lecturing at the Austrian Arbitration Academy – Arbitration Rules in Practice

The Austrian Arbitration Academy is a programme run in cooperation with SHS, VIAC, YAAP and ArbAut and is designed to enhance experienced international arbitration practitioners´ knowledge and expertise. The course will take place in February 2017, and consists of lectures held by first class international arbitration practitioners and participation in the Vienna Arbitration Days, the leading arbitration conference in Austria. Konrad & Partners is proud to announce that Dr. Christian Konrad will be lecturing on “The Arbitral Award and Costs”.

Panel discussion: Free Trade Agreements and Arbitration

Konrad & Partners, in cooperation with the WPZ University of St Gallen, will hold a panel discussion on “Free Trade Agreements and Arbitration” on 3 November 2016, at 6:30pm at Österreichische Kontrollbank.

Dr. Christian Konrad (Konrad & Partners) and Prof. Dr. Christian Keuschnigg (University St. Gallen) are the opening speakers, and will be joined by Gottfried Schellmann (Müller-Koch & Schellmann) and Prof. Ursula Kriebaum (University of Vienna).

The panel will be moderarted by Matthias Benz (Neue Zürcher Zeitung).

Austrian Arbitration Academy 2016

On 21 July 2016, Dr. Christian Konrad gave another lecture at the Austrian Arbitration Academy in Strobl.

This Programme is set up by the University of Vienna and designed for international post graduate students

Conference in Brussels: Energy and arbitration

Dr. Michael Hofstätter shared his experience regarding the compensation for damages in energy disputes at the conference “energy and arbitration”.

On 19 May 2016, the Association for International Arbitration hosted a conference on energy and arbitration in Brussels. Dr. Michael Hofstätter and other esteemed speakers were invited to share their experience, expertise and in-depth knowledge with dispute resolution in the energy sector, particularly in the oil and gas sector.

Dr. Michael Hofstätter discussed the topic “compensation for damages in energy disputes”.

On 19 May 2016, after the top 10 finalists have competed in our Arbitrators´ Quest mock trial, Konrad & Partners is honoured to host a panel discussion concerning “Public arbitration – a solvable contradiction?” which will be moderated by Mr. Köttritsch from “die Presse”.

Dr. Christian W. Konrad of Konrad & Partners and esteemed guests from the Austrian Chamber of Commerce, Brunswick-Group Austria and the European Commission´s Representative in Austria will join us to discuss this interesting issue.

Annual VIS Moot Reception

On 21 March,  Konrad & Partners and the Scottish Arbitration Centre hosted the sixth outstanding Moot Reception on the occasion of the 23rd Annual Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot. Arbitrators from all corners of the globe were invited to an enjoyable and engaging evening over champagne and canapés at the offices of Konrad & Partners.
It was an excellent Austro-Scottish Reception with brilliant entertainment and wonderful company.

Philosophical Dinner with Prof. Köchler

Konrad & Partners hosted another evening of philosphical debate about 'justice and power'.

Hans Köchler, professor at the University of Innsbruck and president of the International Progress Organization, a non-governmental organization with the United Nations, came to international prominence when he was nominated by the former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan as an observer at the Lockerbie bombing trial. Prof. Köchler is also known for his work on the philosophical basis of international relations and his innumerable publications and academic performances. This philosophical dinner was another stimulating evening, followed by an inspiring speech and highly interesting discourses among leading arbitration experts.

Konrad & Partners @ Wien Energie Business Run 2015

Konrad & Partners´ “International Arbitration Team” successfully participated in the 15th Vienna Energy Business Run at Vienna's Ernst-Happel-Stadion.

Under the new record number of 30,000 participants from 1,123 different companies, the runners of the arbitration law firm were able to achieve great results and ran the 4.1 km as a team in a total record time of 1:20:00.

YIAG meets VIS 2015

The topics of the event are “Joining Non-Signatories” and “Interim Relief & the Emergency Arbitrator”. They will be discussed from the perspective of the new 2014 LCIA Rules as well as of this year’s VIS Moot problem.

22nd Croatian Arbitration Days

The 22nd Croatian Arbitration Days, an annual international arbitration conference organised by the Permanent Arbitration Court at the Croatian Chamber of Economy (CCE) will take place from 4-5 December this year.

In the course of this event, Dr. Christian W. Konrad will give a lecture on the subject of „Damages in International Investment Arbitration“.

Austrian Arbitration Academy

Along with other first class international arbitration practitioners from both, the bar and academia, Dr. Christian W. Konrad was lecturing in the course of this year’s Austrian Arbitration Academy, a two-week program for students and young practitioners interested in international arbitration. This year’s Austrian Arbitration Academy took place from 14 to 25 July in Strobl at Lake Wolfgang.

Vienna Arbitration Days

In the course of this year´s Vienna Arbitration Days, the annual Austrian conference for arbitration practitioners, Philipp A. Peters presented on the subject of statute of limitations in international arbitration. He provided experts from a variety of different jurisdictions around the globe with an overview of this highly interesting topic, discussing its most crucial aspects and drawing attention to the most considerable challenges for arbitrators in that context.

Philosophic Dinner

On 16 January 2014, a circle of excellent lawyers convened for a philosophic dinner at the new premises of Konrad & Partners.

None other than Prof. Dr. Georg Liessmann, well known far beyond Austria, led through the evening with interesting perspectives and interpretation on the topic “Happiness”. Prof Liessman’s lecture was the beginning of vivid discussions among the guests.

Message from the philosopher this evening: Humans live the proper life and may experience happiness where they optimize all their abilities and possibilities by using their rationality – meaning where they can realize themselves as human beings.
